THE JERSEY JOURNAL, TUESDAY, APRIL 18, 1989 Obituaries Andrew Chrisomalis, 70, owner of the Alps By Wendell Jamiesen Andrew Chrisomalis, 70, the owner of the Alps restaurant on Bergen Avenue in Jersey City who was known for his professionalism and 1 management of the landmark establishment, died Sunday in the Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Because of Chrisomalis' dedication, the restaurant developed into a prime meeting place for area lawyers and politicians.
"I would say a lot of important decisions were made there," Sheil said. Chrisomalis bought the Alps, which opened in 1918, from a cousin in 1964. Since then, he had trained his two sons in the competitive world of restaurants, starting them out as dishwashers. Chrisomalis was born in New York City, but he lived most of his life in Jersey City.
